The text chores worth automating
Counting is easy, knowing which count you need is not
Writers usually care about words; platforms care about characters. A tweet limit is characters, a university essay limit is often words, and a meta description limit is characters including spaces. Getting these confused is the most common reason a piece of copy gets rejected by a form.
If you are writing for a specific platform, check which unit it limits before you cut anything.
Case conversion has more rules than most people expect
Title case is genuinely ambiguous — do you capitalise 'and' and 'the'? Style guides disagree, and the answer changes depending on whether it is a headline or a citation. The safest rule for titles is to capitalise everything except short articles, conjunctions and prepositions, unless they are the first or last word.
Cleaning data is mostly about removing near-duplicates
The duplicate line remover here compares whole lines exactly. It will not catch 'Hello world' and 'hello world ' as the same line, because the case and the trailing space differ. If you are cleaning a mailing list or a keyword dump, normalise case first, then remove duplicates, then trim whitespace.
That three-step order handles the majority of real-world messy lists.
